RHCE Study Group Mailing List

Hello all my readers!

Finally I’ve made it and finished configuring the Mailing List that will be used for the RHCE Study Group, for now I’m hosting it with through my hosting provider if there is any problem (performance and/or management) I’ll move it to a free on line service.

You have two options to subscribe:

1 – Go to http://ccielogs.com/mailman/listinfo/rhce-group_ccielogs.com and complete the registration form

2 – Send a mail message to rhce-group-request@ccielogs.com with "Subscribe" in the subject (of course remove the quotes tongue RHCE Study Group Mailing List).

If you ever need help on how to use the ML just send a message to the same address adding "help" (without quotes) to the subject and you’ll receive a mail which will explain how to use the ML email interface.

Of course this is just the start of it all, during the next few days I’ll be busy preparing a few VMware images with latest CentOS release fully updated so that all will be able to be up and running quickly.

Please feel free to send me an email or message via the contact for if you need any information or you face any problem.

Thanks, Lethe.

    awesome work!

Any idea how fast we are going to go over material? Will this be a 1 chapter a week thing with maybe the exception of the first 3 or 4 chapters, then everyone will do the conference call/questions thing at the end of the week?

Hmm at 16 chapters that would take 4 months to finish everything now that I think about it. Wonder what the average study time is for self-taught RHCEs

Well I think it’s quite early to have a detailed schedule for that, I think it’s better to wait for anyone else to join (I’m giving 7/10 deadline from today for this) and then we’ll discuss this in ML so that we can find a suitable pace for everyone.

As per the confcall I don’t think it would be viable once a week specially for who, like me, is on a full schedule job and busy with other exams (in my case CCNP track).

Anyhow be clear I don’t want to impose my schedule/pace to anyone, the most important thing to me is to make this group work no problem if I’ll sit the exam later on, I can learn and help you in the process of learning :)

My suggestion is to use this “standby” days reviewing basic material/stuff as this never hurts :) Of course if anyone has material/experience/tips to share feel free to do so, I’ll be more than glad to publish relevant material in a blog post and on sadikhov as well.

sounds good, one idea I’ve had which may or may not be a good one is something like a ventrilo server(or something else similar that is free) that people can join in whenever they feel like it. Personally I think it’d be great to have like a lobby for general talk, a channel for readers who don’t wanna be disturbed but are active, and a channel for every, or every few chapters.

I have actually been in a study group for a different IT forum and the group died really, really quickly. I think if people could converse a lot more on it and easily they’d be more likely to study and also to help people who didn’t get something yet. I tend to learn more by discussing stuff because people have ideas or questions that usually further my understanding.

Perhaps official ‘meetings’ and such would be scheduled to draw everyone into the same place every so often.

Just a few ideas, I bet a bunch of people would be drawn to the online group if it was really active and people could still go at their own pace.

Hi again, to be honest I did not consider anything similar but that’s why I’ve created the mailing list, to discuss problems and such everything related to the study plan in my experience and personal view that works better than a voice chat and it is even easier to track/archieve stuff, as latins used to say “verba volant scripta manent”. The reason why I say this is basically people can benefit from archived discussions on problems or whatever difficulty they’re facing sometimes being able to solve their problems just skimming though the archives rather than rely on a “chat” where maybe no one is online (keep in mind differences in time zone etc.).

Again this is my personal view and could prove totally wrong, anyhow if you know any similar service let me know and I’ll give it a try and see how it goes.

Just a quick note, I think it would be better to discuss this in the ML so that every member can benefit from it and it would be easier to make a poll or something similar.

    Lethe.

I forgot to mention I’ll mirror the discussion on the blog as well if that’s needed so that even non members can benefit from our discussions/progresses.

I agree with tzechzen that the study group better be active, and i think we should use everything we can get – an IRC channel for discussions between members, and a ventrilo server so we can talk once a week and go over the material, and talk about the next chapter. That way who ever is online can be reached thru the IRC, and there we can chat.

About the study path, I think we really need to wait til we get all the members of the group, and then chat about that. see what everyone has to offer, and decide how the study-path will be.

any how, its already fun, good luck to everyone!
