RHCE Study Group – Part 2

Hello all,

as promised here I am to give out a few more details about the RHCE study group and how we are going to organize everything. I am configuring a Mailing List, based on mailman, to which everyone who wants to contribute will be able to subscribe, I’ll give both the details and instructions on how to subscribe once everything is ready (sorry I’m really busy with work and did not had a chance to complete the configuration).

During the study I’ll be following the wonderful book written by Michael Jang Red Hat Certified Engineer Linux Study Guide, this one of the best book for the preparation of RHCE exam out there and it’s even easy to read :

RHCE Self Study Guide

You can find the book in every decent book store, I’ve bought mine via Amazon, and here’s the detail about the book just in case you can’t find it :

  • Publisher: McGraw-Hill Osborne Media; 5 edition (June 21, 2007)

  • Language: English

  • ISBN-10: 0072264543

  • ISBN-13: 978-0072264548

During my posts here on the blog I’ll be more or less following the chapters of the book just to make it easier for everyone to follow progresses. The second book I suggest you to buy is Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Administration Unleashed by Tammy Fox :

RHEL Administration

Again here’s the details about the book just in case of problems :

  • Publisher: Sams (April 30, 2007)

  • Language: English

  • ISBN-10: 0672328925

  • ISBN-13: 978-0672328923

This book is not really geared toward the RHCE certification but trust me when  I say it is worth every single penny of its price!

Last but not least you’ll need a working installation of VMware workstation or VMware Server/Player, the last two are free products, to install and experiment with all the labs contained in the RHCE book. Personally I’ll be using CentOS 5.2 instead of RHEL, keep in mind CentOS it’s just a rebuild of official Red Hat distribution basically they are the same thing, simply because it is free and because it gives the ability to update the system, which can’t be done with RHEL if you don’t have an RHN account.

Closing the post I’m excited to let you know the content of the RHCE Study group posts will be mirrored in one of the best IT community out there which is sadikhov forum, I thank the admin for this chance he gave me :) So feel free to visit the site’s Linux section or the blog, thanks!, to be always up to date with my/our progresses.

I’m also thinking about using a Google shared calendar and some software for Conference Calls, but I think we have all the time to organize this.

As always feel free to send me an email or contact me via the contact form if you have any question regarding this project or anything else!

Thanks for reading this, Lethe.

Buzz it!

  3. lethe You are fast, was looking for such motivated people to keep me going..

I think we should have a well sort out plan here to keep the preparation going ..
And hope that a time table is prepared on a weekly basis and we often have a conference in Skype to end up discussing on it on a weekly basis..

SO that everyone in the group catches up with the study plan and we could help each other in a better way..

But i doubt about the replication of the LAN at home, I have tried it with the Vmware but it never help me anyway.. any help in that regard would be helpful..

  4. I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

  7. I have created a website ( http://www.linuxfanboy.com ) to outline my studies for the RHCE RH302 exam. It is a Wiki site. If anyone is interested in helping build test break scrips and simple straight forward outline to study.

    • Hi Mark,

thanks for your comment, I’ve even wrote about your project/site as I’ve found it a really valid asset in preparing for the RHCE exam. I’m more than willing to give a hand with it or with preparing some tools even if my time lately was really little drop me two lines it would be great if we could work on somethig together.

      Cheer Lethe.
